A new airport will build on the Franz Josef Land

This year, the archipelago will begin construction of a new airport, which will be located in the vicinity of the military camp Nagurskoe, on the island of Alexandra Land. Nagurskoe - is the northernmost frontier of Russia. Development of military infrastructure on the Franz Josef Land is part of a larger program to restore full Russian military presence in the Arctic.

A full range of construction of the airport in the archipelago will hold FSUE "General Directorate of roads and airfields at the Federal Agency for Special Construction." It is planned that the new airport will be built by 2017.
