The International Maritime Organization (IMO) adopted the Polar Code to improve safety for ships in the Arctic.
It covers the full range of maritime traffic aspects in arctic waters: construction, crew training, navigation, compliance with environment requirements and standards.
The code is expected to come into force in late 2016- early 2017.
