Today, May 21st, the Polar Explorer Day is celebrated in Russia!

This professional holiday for Arctic and Antarctic explorers was officially approved by the order of the President of Russian Federation Vladimir Putin in 2013. Artur Chilingarov initiated the holiday celebration.

The date of the holiday was not chosen not by coincidence. The first research drifting station “North Pole-1” under the command of Ivan Papanin was established on May 21 in 1937.
