Vladimir Kotlyakov

glaciologist and geographer, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, director of the Institute of Geography, Russian Academy of Sciences, Honorary President of the Russian Geographical Society. Member and scientific leader of many expeditions, including wintering on Novaya Zemlya islands (1955-1956). In 1967 defended a doctor degree thesis "Snow cover of the globe and glaciers." Engaged in the problems of the mass balance, runoff and fluctuations of glaciers. Explored the current regime and the dynamics of polar glaciations.
